FREETOWN, Sierra Leone — The 26th Chinese medical team stationed in Sierra Leone has delivered a batch of donated supplies to a children’s welfare home in the capital as part of ongoing humanitarian support and cooperation between China and Sierra Leone.

On January 2, 2026, the team handed over essential items including rice, bread, snacks and other daily necessities to the Saint George Foundation Children’s Welfare Institute in Freetown. The contribution was presented as New Year gifts aimed at improving the health and daily lives of vulnerable children residing at the welfare home.

The donation event also served to reinforce the long-standing China–Sierra Leone friendship and cooperation, particularly in the fields of health and social welfare. Liu Longfei, head of the medical team, highlighted the importance of supporting young people as future leaders capable of contributing to Sierra Leone’s development and the strong bond between the two countries.

The Chinese medical team has been active in Sierra Leone for years, offering free healthcare services and traditional Chinese medical treatments to local children, and providing supplies to help improve their overall well-being.

Leaders at the welfare home expressed their deep appreciation for the support from the Chinese team and government. Justina Zainab Conteh, executive director of the Saint George Foundation, thanked the delegation for its consistent efforts and contributions to the care of vulnerable children.

The donation effort reflects broader cooperation in public health between China and Sierra Leone. Chinese medical teams have worked in the country for decades, offering free medical consultations and support on public health challenges, and have been involved in initiatives such as combating disease outbreaks and improving access to healthcare services.
